Our aim is to support our children’s continuous learning journey enabling them to thrive and grow within our community.

We are passionate about promoting good mental health, wellbeing and removing barriers to learning for our children with short-term or more complex on-going needs. Each member of staff is committed to providing an inspiring and challenging environment with opportunities for any child with a special education need or disability, to be included fully in all aspects of school life. We will support them to make good progress, to secure positive outcomes and to ensure they are well prepared for their future.

With every child at the heart of How Wood School, we will move forward together.

Miss Kaczmarek, SENCo (senco@howwood.herts.sch.uk) co-ordinates the approach for children on the SEND register ensuring that staff are supported and trained to ensure the effective inclusion of SEND children. This is through:

  1. High Quality Teaching with differentiated activities that recognise the pupil’s individual needs
  2. Targeted support e.g. small group interventions or personalised behaviour strategies
  3. Working with Outside Agencies
  4. Child Review meetings, with parent, child and staff views represented, which follow the graduated approach (Assess, Plan, Do, Review)

Please see the documents below which describe in detail the support that the School and Local Authority provide for our children with additional needs.
