High-quality clubs and activities are an essential part of school life. They provide opportunities to enrich children’s experiences beyond the curriculum and are an excellent medium to foster good relationships between staff, pupils and parents. They develop children’s social skills by providing a forum of interaction between children across different ages and schools. Clubs and activities are matched to our staff’s expertise and interest and make the most of the resources we have in school. In some cases, clubs are run by external providers who make a charge for attendance.

In usual times we would offer the following clubs during lunchtime and after school:

  • Home Learning
  • Choir
  • Cheer Leading
  • Football / Elite Feet Football
  • Dance
  • Netball
  • Gymnastics
  • Library / Computing
  • Dodgeball
  • Multi-skills
  • Chess
  • Lego Discovery
  • Street Dance

At present we have the following clubs running :

  • Street dance – Y1 & 2
  • Street dance Y3 & 4
  • Football Y5/6 boys
  • Football Y5/6 girls

PE & Sports Funding

In April 2013 the Government announced new funding of £150 million for PE and sport.

This PE allocated funding is intended to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. The funding is allocated to each school and is dependent upon their number of pupils. Schools determine their own spending; looking to improve the quality and breadth of PE / sport, looking to increase participation, encourage healthy lifestyles and the quality of PE and extra-curricular provision.

At How Wood we have allocated the funding to:

  • Provide lunchtime and after school sports clubs for all year groups
  • Supporting our teaching by purchasing new equipment and resources
  • Joining the schools sports partnership
  • Training for staff by qualified coaches

We like to celebrate children’s success in PE and sports by mentioning them in assembly, and by including them on our ‘Sports Wall of Fame!’
