We listen to your child read at least once a week. The children are encouraged to read daily at home and to record this in their red reading record book. Please take a look at the two web links below for lists of appropriate reading level books.

Your writing has been a pleasure to read. You are consistently adding adverbs and conjunctions to add detail.
You always manage to engage the reader, what a wonderful strength!

A huge well done to all the children of Year 3. Throughout the year, you have worked hard developing and mastering your handwriting. You know how to form your letters correctly and show the joins.
You have now all received your pen licences!

What a star you are Summer!
You are working really hard at the moment in ALL subjects. Your listening skills have improved and you are making the most out of every learning opportunity.

HALF TERM highlights
year 3 – received their pens licences
This week was a big week for the children as each child received their pen licence.
“It made me feel so proud of myself” Amber told us!
healthy eating week
Children this week tasted some different fruits and vegetables they had not tried before and we were very impressed by the varied snacks!
The watermelon was everyone’s favourite and was a treat on such a hot day!

Year 3 welcomed parents to see just some of our learning!
We had a range of activities showing off key skills we have learnt this year.
We ALL thoroughly enjoyed it!

How Wood School were treated to a visit by Electric Umbrella which we all thoroughly enjoyed!
World book day – Thursday 3rd March 2022
Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day! We took part in a class quiz, book buddy time with Year 2 and shared our favourite books and characters! Look at our amazing costumes:

We were visited by a therapist called Prakesh who told us what a therapist’s job entails. He then taught us a breathing technique to do when we feel worried and ways to express our feelings.
Chinese New Year combined with National Story Telling Week
We were treated to an interactive story telling session performed by Sin Man Yan from The Red Panda Agency. As you can see by the photos, it was quite mesmerising and we all really enjoyed it!
In Art we have been working on our sculptures made from air drying modelling clay. Here are pictures of our school display.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW FOR YEAR 3
Class Assembly: TBC
This half term we are reading THE FINGER EATER during our guided reading sessions.
Home Learning is set every Friday via Google Classroom. Children will be set spellings and asked to complete activities on their ‘Times Tables Rockstars’ and ‘MyMaths’ account. We have also produced a home learning menu linked to our topic.
Children are asked to complete 4 tasks before the end of half term.
Children are also expected to read every day at home with an adult and record their reading in their Reading Record.
Spelling tests are every Friday, please remember to have the purple spelling practice book in school for this.
Friday PM is our PE time we are learning Athletics this half term.
Every Monday morning. Swimming hats are required by all children. Goggles are permitted to be worn as long as we have received a letter from parents.
DRINKS AND SNACKS
Children are asked to bring in their own labelled water bottles which are returned home every day to be cleaned.
Remember something to eat for morning break, this should be a healthy snack, preferably fruit (no sugary food/chocolate/crisps).
Please ensure your child has a suitable waterproof/warm coat and shoes/boots for inclement weather.
BE SUN SAFE
During the Summer Term please ensure your child has sunscreen (preferably a once a day type applied at home before school) and a hat for all breaks outside.
